Coconut Cave Hideout Shells
Coconut Cave Hideout Shells
Coconut shells come from coconut palm trees. They are the protective outer layer of the coconut fruit. However, after the shells are emptied, dried, and aged and the protective husk is removed, coconut shells can be used in various ways in aquariums, most commonly as caves for small fish, plecos, and shrimp. Our half-size coconut shells typically have a one large opening. Their exterior is smooth and predominantly brown. They are natural, completely safe to use in aquariums, and an environmentally friendly choice.
How to use Coconut Shells in Your Aquarium
Coconut shells can provide hiding places for fish and shrimp. The hollow interior of the shell creates a natural-looking cave where shy fish can find refuge. Other fish such as small South American cichlids like Apistogramma or German Ram will use these coconut caves to establish their territories, spawn, and raise their fry. Plecos also love these caves and will use them as their shelter and potentially as spawning sites.
